										  Bankload v1.0 (10/06/95)
										  -------------

(Note: bankload requires the use of the CTL3D.DLL library, which is supplied,
please move this to your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory (if it does not exist
there already) - BANKLOAD may refuse to work otherwise!)

Description
-----------

Associate the BANKLOAD.EXE file with the extension BCF from File
Manager (Bank ConFig File).

When double clicking on a BCF file from the File Manager, bankload
should be run, it will read in the file and upload all SBKs specified in
the file.

The general format to the BCF is:

[Startlist]
Bank 01=C:\USER\SONGS\AWEDANCE\TR909.SBK
Bank 00=C:\USER\SOUND\BASS\BASS.SBK (this line would cause error!)
Inst 127/10=C:\USER\SOUND\BRASS\TOP_BRAS.SBK
Bank 04=C:\USER\SOUND\SBK\SAMMLUNG.1\BURR.SBK
Inst 0/10=C:\USER\SOUND\EFFEKTE\BEEPECHO.SBK
[Endlist]

Banks [Bank]
-----

Where the first value is the user bank and the string (everything
after the '=' sign), is the path to the required SBK for that bank).

Note: Uploading to bank 0 will cause an error (as it is the SYNTH bank,
and not really a user bank).

Instruments [Inst]
-----------

When the first word specifies a instrument, the first value is the required
bank to house the instrument, and the second value is the actual number of
the instrument the SBK is to be placed.

Instruments CAN by placed into the synth bank (use bank value of zero!).

General
-------

You may put any text before or after the list (i.e. for comments, midi
file title, etc.)

Optionally, you may include the phrase '(quietmode)' (without quotes),
in the text before the start of the list. This has the effect of not
producing error messages if a bank can not be uploaded.

Upon Execution
--------------

You will be asked which mode to use, you can access AWEMAN.DLL via two
distinct routes.

	1) USER MODE - this is the standard mode
(note: used by CakeWalk and Vienna + MIDI file players)

	2) SUPERVISOR MODE - a mode usually only used by the Control Panel

SUPERVISOR mode is the default because as long as you have not got the
Control Panel actually running, this should work. Choose USER mode if the
Control Panel IS active and NO USER APPLICATION IS ALSO RUNNING.

If both routes are in use, you will have to free either before you can
continue.

Clear User Banks? - This will clear all the banks (1-127), the default for
						  this question is YES.

Refresh Settings? - This will re-load the current synth bank emulation
						  into dRAM. Default is YES.

After these two questions the upload procedure will occur.

Configuration on Windows Startup
--------------------------------

To run Bankload and configure the user banks on windows boot-up, use the
following method.

	1) add the BANKLOAD.EXE as an icon to the 'Startup' windows group
		(choose prefered icon)

	2) bring up the 'properties' for the icon, and add the SBK filename as
a parameter to the 'COMMAND LINE' entry.

You may also see, that you can use this icon method at any time during a
windows session instead of using File Manager.

There is probably a lot more you can do with Bankload than I have said here,
so any good ideas get telling other AWEers! An editor to create the actual
*.BCF files would be a useful extension to this project.

Have fun! (cleeeeshay!!!)
